ISSUES FOR EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY 2007-2008

  • INSTANT RUNOFF VOTING

ELECTION REFORM:

  • INSTANT RUNOFF VOTING AND CHOICE VOTING: The League supports Instant Runoff Voting for single winner elections and Choice Voting for multi-winner elections at the local level.   • REDISTRICTING REFORM: The League supports redistricting reform through a Legislative proposal to include an independent redistricting commission that reflects the diversity of our state, an open process for public input and scrutiny, and sound criteria for the drawing of plans.

  • CLEAN ELECTIONS: The League supports AB 583, the California Clean Money and Fair Elections Act to implement public financing of elections. For more information click here.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES:
  • Oppose attempts to weaken or delay implementation of the Clean Air Act.

  • Oppose attempts to open the Artic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling.

HEALTH CARE:
  • The League supports Senator Kuehl's California Health Insurance Reliability Act (SB 840).
