- LOCAL IMPACT OF STATE BUDGETARY ISSUES
- The California state League has taken strong positions on the current budget crisis. A constitutional convention is being advocated as a possible solution and while the League has not endorsed the concept we believe it is important to participate in the public discussion.
- INSTANT RUNOFF VOTING AND CHOICE VOTING: The League supports Instant Runoff Voting for single winner elections and Choice Voting for multi-winner elections at the local level. To request a brochure or other information contact the League Office at 626-798-0965. An online version of the brochure about Instant Runoff Voting is posted here.
- REDISTRICTING REFORM: The League supports redistricting reform through a Legislative proposal to include an independent redistricting commission that reflects the diversity of our state, an open process for public input and scrutiny, and sound criteria for the drawing of plans. The passage of Proposition 11 in November 2008 achieved this goal.
- CLEAN ELECTIONS: The League supported AB 583, the California Clean Money and Fair Elections Act to implement public financing of elections. This bill has now passed the legislature and been signed by the governor. For more information click here.
- Oppose attempts to weaken or delay implementation of the Clean Air Act.
- Oppose attempts to open the Artic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling.
- The State League supports the California Health Insurance Reliability Act (SB 810).
- The National League supports America's Affordable Health Choices Act (HR 3200).
