- Our League Diversity Policy
- The LWVPA affirms our belief in, and commitment to, diversity and pluralism. There shall be no
barriers to participation in any activity of the LWVPA on the basis of gender, race, creed, age,
sexual orientation, national origin or disability. The LWVPA recognizes that diverse perspectives are
important and necessary for responsible and representative decision making. The LWVPA welcomes every
opportunity to reflect the diversity of the Pasadena area in our programs, membership and board.
- Are Members Expected to Give Much of their Time to League Activities?
- The League has a policy of "guilt free" membership. Many members choose only to support the
League by their dues payments. However, members can be as active as they wish. There are many
opportunities to participate in League activities. We have a monthly League Day (or Night), at which
speakers present information on a current topic of interest, and monthly unit meetings at which
smaller groups of members engage in discussion of issues. Other ways in which you may serve the
League include:
- member of study committees on subjects such as county government and voting systems
- observer of city government meetings
- presenter of pro or con arguments for ballot issues
- moderator or time keeper at candidate forums
- monitor of student or other nongovernmental elections
- participant in voter registration drives
- volunteer staffing the League office
- member of the League Board of Directors
- What Benefits Can I Derive from League Membership?
- Young people can obtain invaluable experience by serving in positions of responsibility in
the League. This training can help prepare them for future careers in either the public or private
sector.
- Retired people who want to remain active have found that involvement in League projects is
both rewarding and good for their mental and physical health.
- All members have the opportunity to discover new interests and develop new skills, gain
knowledge about crucial issues affecting their community, and make lasting friendships and
professional contacts.
- All members receive League publications, including local, state and national newsletters
which provide timely information on issues and politics.
